Sept. 09, 2015 - Update : Prof. Siebert is alive and well in Kalamazoo, MI and is NOT, I repeat, NOT, stuck in an airport or hotel lobby in the Philippines.
March 16, 2010 - Update : Within the month, Prof. Siebert will no longer be using his AOL email address.
March 13, 2010 - Update : This last week, an attempt was made by 419'ers to scam money from Prof. Siebert's friends.
If you have received an email from RSiebi3@aol.com (note the extra 'i' in the address), please disregard the fraudulent communication.
The fraudulent email claims that he is stuck in the United Kingdom and needs $3,800 to get back home.
This is an impossibility since Prof. Siebert never travels overseas without his friends, family, and/or grad students.
How this happen is grounded in the fact that his AOL email address book, which at last count had some 350+ addresses, was hacked and stolen by one of these 419'ers.
So, if you get an email from RSiebi3@aol.com, please forward it to
TOSgeneral@aol.com,
customerservice@westernunion.com, Western Union's Fraud Hotline at 1-800-448-1492, and/or the FBI's new
Internet Crime Complaint Center.
